Ready to find your own way on the trail?
Whether you're a tramper who's always relied on GPS or a hiker wanting to build a more fundamental understanding of where you are and where you're going, this practical workshop builds your navigation confidence from the ground up. You'll learn to read topographic maps, understand key map features, and plan routes across New Zealand's marked trail network, before putting it into practice with compass use, distance calculation, and terrain reading. We keep the focus on connecting what's on the map with what's in front of you on the ground, giving you the time and repetition needed to make these skills second nature across a range of on-track environments. By the end of the day, you'll have the navigation toolkit and trail-reading confidence to explore New Zealand's trail network more independently and on your own terms.
Secure your spot now to take your first confident steps onto the track—a minimum of three participants is required for the course to proceed.
