Ready to cross with confidence?
Whether you're a tramper who's always felt uncertain at the water's edge or an outdoor enthusiast looking to fill a critical gap in your skillset, this practical workshop gives you the tools to tackle river crossings safely and decisively. You'll learn to read water hazards, assess river levels, and identify safe crossing points, before putting it all into practice with solo and group crossing techniques on real waterways. We keep the focus on hands-on learning throughout, building your understanding of risk management, emergency protocols, and the go/no-go decision-making that keeps trampers safe when conditions get serious. By the end of the day, you'll have the confidence and judgement to approach river crossings as a natural part of your time in the New Zealand backcountry.
Return transport is included from our office at 9 Geddes Terrace, Avondale, Auckland.
Secure your spot now to take your first confident steps onto the track—a minimum of three participants is required for the course to proceed.

To help you make an informed decision about participation, we provide details of the specific serious risks associated with each activity. Please take a moment to review the Serious Risk Disclosure for your chosen activity, as understanding these risks helps keep both you and the group safe.
